A few years ago I came across a quote from Marianne Williamson that struck a chord in me. At first, I couldn't really understand it fully and over the years I recognized that this quote is very true. "Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our Light, not our Darkness, that most frightens us."
In fact, when I talk to my patients or even just over hearing conversations at the groceries or coffee shop, I hear how little we all shine our light. Often, we put ourselves down to relate to others. Or, we stick to a certain routine of being because that just feels comfortable.
It all comes back to a common denominator: fear. The fear of being judged, of being misunderstood, of being different, of not belonging. Most probably we first experienced this fear when we were little children, caught up in our world of sparkles, wonder, unicorns and being able to fly and all of a sudden - some good meaning parent or mischievous sibling pulling us into out of this state of love and wonder into judgement and expectation.
