“We know only too well that what we are doing is nothing more than a drop in the ocean. But if the drop were not there, the ocean would be missing something.” I like this quote of St. Mother Theresa because it reminds me that no matter how unimportant or trivial things may seem to us, there are really not.
I wish more attention would be placed on how each individual can make a difference and affect the world. When we turn on the TV or radio, we can feel overwhelmed by the drama surrounding us. It is not just a specific event that is being portrayed, it is also often delivered in a way so that it becomes bigger, or more threatening and ultimately self-perpetuating in the various media outlets, in conversations with friends and even our own inner talk.
Yet, we can choose to be unaffected by the "big news" and influence our immediate surroundings and interactions. We don't need another ribbon or "cause". We can trust the ripple effect of any of our kind thoughts and actions to perpetuate themselves...and it starts within us.
A smiling face, a helpful hand and loving thoughts do make a difference! This doesn't cost money and it doesn't take a lot of work, but it affects the future of people and events. Whatever we think and do today, has ripple effects in the near and distant future.
So, be kind to yourself and to those that you meet. Notice your self-talk or judgement and choose to make a shift.
